RE:
Please Sign SB #1766 “An Act Relating to Psychotropic “Medications”
and Children” and Informed Consent Dear Governor Bush; Our national non-profit parent organization representing thousands of parents nationwide is writing to strongly urge you to sign SB #1766, an act relating to administration of psychotropic “medication,” which includes certain provisions to ensure parental informed consent. Our organization
represents 54 Some of the parents that have joined our organization have lost their children as a result of these psychotropic drugs prescribed them. Mrs. Vicky Dunkle was told by her daughter’s school that her daughter needed to be on “medication” to help her do her work and focus better. Sadly, just two years later little Shaina Dunkle died in her mother’s arms. The death certificate noted that the drug prescribed her was the cause of her death http://www.ablechild.org/dunkle.htm. In my own case, I was
told that my son needed to be on “medication” for him to remain in his
public school. I was never at any time told that his attentional
issues could be the result of real underlying health conditions or
educational issues. I was not told that by giving my son a label, I
was in essence labeling him mentally ill, and this label would be part of
his permanent records. I was not told that the drugs prescribed him
could have serious side effects. My son had those side effects! When
I pulled him off the drugs because they were impairing his overall health,
his school called a state child abuse agency on me, charging my husband
and me with medical neglect! Our story has made national media and
my son has a Federal Lawsuit against the school district and doctors for
violating his Constitutional Right to Our organization knows from our own parent member’s personal experiences with this matter that many laws are needed to safeguard parental and children’s rights. We cannot stress enough that we as parents should have the right to “opt out” of any “treatment” that we feel will damage our children’s health, spirit, and overall well being. Forced “treatment” goes against everything that this country was founded upon. Lastly, as parents, we simply cannot make educated decisions regarding this matter without being given all the information. As a result of not being provided with full informed consent, we compromise our children’s health and safety! Please play a major role in helping us protect our children, by giving parent’s the right to make healthy choices regarding their children. We cannot restate or stress enough the urgency in our plea to you, protect our children and our right to informed consent by signing SB #1766!
