Dear Ms. Harris:

 

My wife and I met with you and Dr. Reichert, the District’s consulting physician, earlier this year to discuss Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).  After our meeting, you sent us a brochure entitled, “ADHD – Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder and Learning Disabilities – Booklet for Parents,” by Larry B. Silver, M.D.  We’ve seen these brochures before at various sites in the District.  We’ve also seen its companion, “ADHD - Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder and Learning Disabilities-Booklet for the Classroom Teacher,” also by Dr. Silver.

 

Since these brochures appear to be readily available, I assume we order each one in sufficient quantity to meet the demand.  I would like to know where they come from.  I realize they’re published by CIBA-GEIGY but I’d like to know how they get to the District.  Do we buy them?  If so, I’d like to know in what quantities, at what frequency, and at what cost for each brochure.  If CIBA sends them to you for free, I’d still like to know in what quantities and at what frequency for each one.  Regarding the latter brochure, are these distributed to all teachers or only to those who request it?  As I recall, both brochures have been available in the District since the early 1990s.  Can you give me a closer approximate?

This letter is in response to your request for information regarding the brochure, ADHD-Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder and Learning Disabilities- Booklet for Parents, and ADHD-Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder and Learning Disabilities-Booklet for the Classroom Teacher, by Larry B. Silver, M.D.  In my research, I have discovered that the booklets were not ordered, but in fact given to the district by a CIBA representative.  The booklets were then distributed to parents/teachers when a need to provide additional information was indicated.

 

At this time, the district has no plans to procure additional copies.  You may contact directly, the Ciba-Geigy Corporation, Pharmaceuticals Division, Summit, New Jersey 07901, for more information regarding the distribution and costs of these booklets.
