D.O.G.E. Mastermind Under the Influence of Ketamine

Ketamine in a vial, narcotics are dangerous to health or brain nervous system

Elon Musk, Tesla and SpaceX CEO, D.O.G.E mastermind and best friend of President Trump, recently disclosed that he is a user of the anesthetic, Ketamine, to manage symptoms of depression. One must wonder, given the possible serious side effects of the drug, if there are national security issues that need to be addressed.

Let’s consider for a moment the fact that the man the President of the United States has put the full faith and credit, on a number of delicate issues, is taking a prescribed mind-altering drug for a psychiatric disorder, which Musk believes is largely “genetic rather than a response to external challenges.” Hmmm…

This is one of the smartest guys in the room and the world’s richest man who does not know that there is zero science to support the genetics-is-responsible-for-depression claim? In fact, it is odd that a man who completely relies on science and accurate data has no idea that there is not one psychiatric disorder that is an abnormality of the brain. In other words, there is no test known to man – an MRI, CAT Scan, Blood test, or any other scientific measurement, that can detect an abnormality in the brain for any psychiatric diagnosis. Are people depressed? Sure. Is it an objective, confirmable abnormality of the brain? No.

Therefore, because there is no method of testing for a psychiatric disorder, it becomes difficult, if not impossible, to legitimately “treat” one. Nevertheless, Musk has defended the use of Ketamine, explaining that the drug is medically supervised, with a prescription from a licensed professional. This explanation is interesting in light of the fact that the Food and Drug Administration, FDA, has not approved Ketamine for use for any alleged psychiatric disorder. So, Musk’s physician is prescribing the drug experimentally and “off-label.”

Recall that Friends star, Matthew Perry, died from the overuse of Ketamine and he, too, got his prescription from a licensed doctor. But there are reasons the drug has not received the FDA’s stamp of approval including some serious possible side effects that include hallucination, abnormal dreams, nightmares, confusion, agitation, abnormal behavior, delirium, flashback, dysphoria, insomnia, disorientation and psychotic episodes.

Further, Musk reports that he takes a low dose of Ketamine biweekly to manage symptoms of depression. Because there is no FDA oversight of the drug, one also must wonder how Musk’s medical supervisor came to the twice-a-month “treatment” regimen?

Musk insists that the Ketamine use is carefully regulated. Fine. Is the Trump administration made aware of the dates of the twice monthly trips to Ketamine treatment? Is Musk handling sensitive information during or directly after the treatment sessions?  And because Musk is so close to the Commander and Chief, has the Secret Service been advised of Musk’s psychiatric treatment history above and beyond the Ketamine? Not unimportant questions. Is Musk also taking any prescribed psychiatric drugs to address his symptoms of depression?

Plus, the irony can’t be ignored that this is the same CEO of Neuralink, a company with aims of creating brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) that connect humans and machines, initially focusing on those afflicted with paralysis or neurological disorders. This kind of experimentation seems pointless as it relates to “neurological disorders.” First, it’s important to separate Neurology from Psychiatry. Neurology treats diseases of the brain, while Psychiatry treats behaviors, and no abnormality can be identified in the brain for any psychiatric disorder. So, what “neuro disorders” is Neuralink identifying? Please explain. For example, is it identifying and treating a disease of the brain which is neurology, or a psychiatric disorder which deals with behavior. Mixing the two (neuro and disorder) confuses the treatment – disease or disorder.

Nevertheless, Musk is an extremely creative, smart, intuitive and technically savvy guy. In a word, most think of Musk as a geek. And history is chock full of incredibly talented men who changed the world with the help of mind-altering elixirs. Musk is not unlike other movers and shakers throughout history. For example, the man who brought us A Christmas Carol, A Tale of Two Cities, and David Copperfield, Charles Dickens was addicted to Opium. Stephen King, arguably one of the greatest writers in the world, reportedly took a cocktail of drugs, including cocaine, XanaxValium, NyQuil, beer, tobacco, and marijuana to get him through the day, Thomas Edison, the holder of more than one thousand patents, might attribute his success to a drink known as Vin Mariani, a Bordeaux wine treated with coca leaves, and finally there is Francis Crick, the legendary molecular biologist who “perceived the double-helix shape while on LSD.”

Drug and alcohol use among the great and near great isn’t new. The difference between Musk and his counterparts might be that Mars man’s Ketamine use is blamed on an alleged psychiatric disorder, while the others simply used without assigning reasons. More importantly, Musk has a cozy relationship with the President of the United States and whether the Ketamine use could become a problem for the bromance is yet to be seen. At the very least, Americans, while empathetic to Musk’s mental health issues, are justified for wanting full disclosure of Ketamine treatment days.

Full disclosure of Musk’s mind-altering drug use isn’t personal. AbleChild believes that all elected Members of Congress and the Cabinet should provide full disclosure of any prescribed psychiatric medications.

Note: Inside the FDA  – on the “No” vote – for a mirror drug that was approved, but Ketamine has not been FDA approved
