Police Investigation into Kansas City Chiefs Parade Mass Shooting Reveals The Cracks in the Long-term Investment in Big Pharma’s Police Mental Health Divisions

With sixty homicides on his hands, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas told a crowd at his first Town Hall Meeting in 2018 that money should be diverted to mental health and trauma to reduce gun violence and high homicide rates.  “You should be able to not have gunshots waking you up, or being a soundtrack of your life,” Lucas boldly told constituents at the meeting. Sounds good, right? Not necessarily.

Lucas, clearly a pro-mental health, anti-gun Mayor, invested heavily in Big Pharma mental health treatments to curb crime and was determined to transform the police station into a working referral source for psychiatry.  Clearly the Mayor’s approach was increasing the use of mind-altering drugs as a Pharmacologic mental restraint to reduce crime.  He even toured the mental health “behavioral health center” where those with run-ins with the law would be rounded up and sent.  This would powerfully increase the billion-dollar business of mental health and their influence within the police departments in Kansas City.

The problem with the Mayor’s policy is that police are trained by Stakeholders such as the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, (NAMI), which receives a majority of its funding from Big Pharma with Crisis Intervention Teams, (CIT).  These massive behavioral health programs were ushered in by President’s Obama’s “mental health first aid” grants in the aftermath of Sandy Hook.  The Mayor’s deep investment into psychiatric drugs and services for the police has paid off by increasing homicides in 2023 to 185, which tripled the deadly trend from when Lucas entered office.

The way police investigations are conducted has changed remarkably because of the embedded mental health divisions within the stations that bank on Big Pharma crisis teams to do the heavy lifting in the investigative process, often avoiding any link of Pharma’s products or services to the crime.  In fact, that includes withholding the mental health “treatment” (psychiatric mind-altering drugs) of the shooters, and the mental health provider treating psychiatrists’ information.  The handlers from the behavioral health vendors often provide confusing data relating to the identity of the shooter and sit on mental health information so that attention fades from the collection of evidence.

This latest shooting in Kansas City has led to the capture of two suspects whose names are being withheld. What investment was made in security prior to the event?   Is the lack of being prepared based on the fact the behavioral health and drug industry have capture this vital public safety institution, our police?

Have the mental health handlers stepped in to squash this investigation?  What is Big Pharma’s role in this investigation? Is law enforcement becoming “access” providers for the drug companies and behavioral health industry?   Is this really a good idea? The Food and Drug Administration has made it abundantly clear that too many of these psychiatric pharmaceutical products increase the risk of suicide and violence.  It appears the Pharmaceutical and Behavioral Health industry refuse to educate the police about the fact their products and services are a contributing factor to the increase violence and suicides.
