CDC Leadership Crisis: Trump’s Controversial Pick Raises Alarm for Public Health
March 27, 2025
President Trump’s nomination of Susan Monarez as CDC director is a grave disservice to the American people and a blatant attempt to undermine Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s efforts to revolutionize public health in the United States. This decision, coupled with the rejection of Dr. David Weldon, reeks of backroom deals and a desperate clinging to failed policies.
The House and Senate initially complained that Kennedy lacked a medical background for his HHS role. In response, Kennedy selected Dr. David Weldon, a physician and former congressman, to lead the CDC. This choice addressed concerns about medical expertise in key health positions. However, in a shocking turn of events, Trump pulled Weldon’s nomination just hours before his confirmation hearing, only to put forward Monarez, a Fauci cronie.
Monarez, who lacks the medical background traditionally expected for this crucial role, threatens to undermine the very foundations of public health leadership. Her clear alignment with past failed policies and ties to Dr. Anthony Fauci make her utterly unsuitable for a role that requires fresh thinking and a willingness to challenge entrenched interests.
While the American people are pleased to see Trump’s efforts to bring drug manufacturing back to the United States, they demand informed consent and safer medications. Monarez’s background raises serious concerns about her commitment to these crucial issues. Her strong focus on AI in healthcare, as evidenced by her statements at DEF CON and other events, suggests a troubling prioritization of technology over ethical considerations. This approach risks sidelining important discussions about patient rights, ethics, and the potential biases in AI-driven health systems.
The rejection of Dr. Weldon and the push for Monarez is not just unacceptable – it’s a betrayal of the American people’s trust. President Trump needs to reinstate Dr. Weldon’s candidacy. It’s time for a public hearing to evaluate Dr. Weldon’s qualifications transparently.
President Trump must take the sharp approach of allowing a full hearing for Dr. Weldon, not because he made an error, but because the American people demand it. The health of our nation depends on bold, independent leadership – not another puppet of the pharmaceutical industry and entrenched bureaucrats.
Any deal President Trump struck with senators to secure Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s confirmation as HHS Secretary must be nullified immediately. The public strongly supports Kennedy’s vision, and he deserves to assemble a team that shares his commitment to addressing America’s health crisis.
Trump must listen to the people, not the lawmakers. Dr. Weldon deserves a public hearing – we demand it.
